After action plans have been implemented, the school counselor can evaluate the effectiveness of the services or intervention by looking at the same data that was identified before implementation and reporting any changes in the data.

When school counselors evaluate interventions and programs, it shows the effectiveness and need for the school counselor in the schools.

After implementing and evaluating the programs and interventions, school counselors need to report the results to stakeholders. The results can be reported in many different ways.

The future of school counseling depends on the effectiveness of the school counselor. Finally, the system support component enables the school counseling program to be effective through a variety of support activities including professional development, consultation, collaboration, teaming, program management and operations.

The management of a school counseling program is an organized effort: concrete, clearly delineated and reflective of the school site's needs. It involves analysis of relevant data, development of action plans to meet objectives, and provision of organizational activities.

It answers the questions of when and why certain activities will take place, who will implement them, and on what authority the school counseling program is delivered.

What does the new standard, program accountability, mean for school counselors and school counseling programs in Connecticut? The mandate of this legislation, which calls for all critical players in the school setting to share responsibility to collectively remove barriers for students that impede learning and academic success, places school counselors in a new accountability mode that focuses on the results of the school counseling program and its impact on student achievement and success.

Increasingly school counselors are being challenged to demonstrate the effectiveness of the school counseling program in measurable terms. If this challenge is to be met, school counselors must be accountable for taking a leadership role for program development and implementation that is based on the ten program standards discussed in an earlier section of this document.

Program effectiveness can be determined only when a program is in place, the standards are met and maintained on an ongoing basis.
