A common diagnosis appears to be the use of a driver other than the one supplied by the computer manufacturer, typically a driver installed via Windows Update.
If the problem started within a week or so, I suggest following Bill Smithers ' suggestion to do a system restore to a date just before the problem started. If the problem has been going on for a long time, however, I wouldn't do a system restore and you might not even have a restore point that was far enough back.
